Hi Montlake!

January flew by! You should have received a printed copy of the Montlake Flyer on your doorstep. There’s great content inside with neighborhood updates as well as yummy recipes from Oxbow and Cafe Lago. If you didn’t receive one, you can find the digital version online here.

We have exciting happenings this spring including our UW Athletics nights and an in-person Community Meeting and Safety Skills Fair. We will have representatives from the WA State Senate attending to listen and share about the Hopin 520 land use. Mark your calendars for April 25th from 12-3pm and plan to attend at the Montlake Community Center. More details will be shared in upcoming monthly emails.

If you’re a fan of podcasts, we highly recommend having a listen to the NYTimes Wirecutter episode on last year’s Altadena fires. The episode highlights the importance of emergency preparedness and knowing your neighbors. Listen online or on Spotify.

Montlake Elementary Enrollment is now open

Attention incoming Montlake Elementary Kindergarten Families: Please enroll your student ASAP!

Have an incoming Kindergarten student? Know a neighbor or friend considering Montlake?

SPS choice enrollment process will occur earlier this year to simplify planning for families. Families in the geo-zone should enroll now and those zoned to other schools who want to attend Montlake are strongly encouraged to submit their choice applications ASAP to secure a spot.

Enrolling by end of day will help ensure appropriate staffing for 2026-2027! Spread the word to neighbors and friends who might be interested in joining us at Montlake!

Montlake Nights at UW Games in February

Mark your calendars and get your tickets! The Montlake Community Club is attending game nights for UW Women's Gymnastics. Part of the ticket proceeds will go towards raising funds for MCC. Please use the links below to reserve your spot!

Sidewalk repairs coming to Montlake Business District

Seattle Department of Transportation will repair the sidewalks on 24th Ave E between McGraw and Lynn starting February 7th.

Work will begin on Saturday and will continue through the week, Monday through Friday. They will use heavy equipment to break out sidewalks on Saturday and do form work and pour concrete on the weekdays. Access to businesses should remain unchanged during this time. We'll provide more details in upcoming newsletters and on the Montlake Community Club Social Channels.

Montlake Elementary PTA Dine Out

Feb 3rd @ 4pm

Come join Montlake Elementary PTA for dinner at Mioposto! Part of the proceeds for dine-ins and takeouts will help support the PTA, an association of parents, caregivers, community members and staff.

MRTF will continue to work with CM Hollingsworth’s office to reduce the scale/height of our Neighborhood Center and Commercial District.

2026 Montlake Garden & Art Tour

Saturday, June 27th 11am - 3pm

Mark your calendar! The Montlake Community Club is excited to announce the second annual Montlake Garden & Art Tour, Saturday, June 27, 2026. The self-guided tour through the Montlake neighborhood will offer a chance to slow down, take a stroll and discover the creativity growing right next door. This year's tour will feature all new gardens and artwork and a chance to meet the creators.

Town hall meeting with Congresswoman Jayapal

The Washington State Legislative session will be kicking off soon! Check out the town hall for the 43rd Legislative District (Eastlake, Montlake, Madison Park, Capitol Hill, part of First Hill, SLU, Downtown, Belltown, Fremont, Laurelhurst) on Feb 21, 2026 1pm-2:30pm Kerry Hall.

Montlake Community Center Spring Registration- coming soon

Mark your calendars! Montlake Community Center spring registration opens 3/3 at noon, with summer activity camp registration following on 3/17 at noon. We’re excited to roll out a fresh mix of new classes and summer camps—don’t miss out!

Do you have ideas for things that could be improved for our neighborhood? Is there something you think the city needs to address? This can be anything from a bad sidewalk to ideas for beautification.

Montlake Emergency Hub News

Montlake Emergency Hub is sharing tips from the Emergency Management Division of Washington, www.DisasterReadyWashington.com, to help you prepare your household for disasters. It takes only about one hour each month to make progress on this essential goal. February’s tip is to create an Action Plan.

*Monthly Tip: February - Action Plan

An Action Plan depends on the types of threats that might occur in our area. In our area, these include earthquakes, floods, landslides, hazardous material incidents, and extended power and communication outages. Your Action Plan should include how to respond in these situations. Some disasters may require evacuation, so you need to have a plan.

o Create a list of several places you can go during an emergency. Select places in different

directions in case some roads are impassable.

o Sign up for Alert Seattle notifications at Alert.Seattle.gov or Alert King County notifications

through identityservice.onsolve.net. KIRO-AM 710 is the primary entry point for FEMA’s

National Public Warning system.

o Prepare a go-bag with essential items, keeping at least a half tank of gas in the car, and having a

portable emergency kit, which you can take for evacuation.

o Review your Action Plan every six months and update as needed. Remember to test your fire

extinguishers, smoke detectors, and carbon monoxide detectors monthly and replace batteries

every six months.

Mark your calendar for Urban Skills Fair, hosted by the Montlake Emergency Hub, in partnership with the Roanoke Emergency Communications Hub, the Montlake Community Club and the Montlake Community Center. Join us to learn additional skills needed during an emergency and more about creating an Action Plan.

From Neighbor Leslie: As more leaves fall, did you know that you’re responsible for your curb as a homeowner? Seattle storm drains flow directly to rivers, lakes, creeks, and the Puget Sound, acting as a conduit for trash and organic pollutants. It’s your responsibility to keep the gutter clean. In fact, there is a volunteer program called Adopt a Storm Drain
